Where To Find Jobs Online – Part 1
So you have recently finished your studies, become unemployed or are looking to get back in to work. Now the question is where do I start?
This article will give you some basic information and resources, where you can start looking and searching online for that dream job, in any industry and business area.
There are a number of very good New Zealand job sites which let you perform detailed searches on the type of job, location, position and yearly income you are looking for. The great thing about these sites is that you do not need to register in order to browse through their job listings and can compare your skills, experience and offered positions with each other.
TradeMe Jobs – www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-me-jobs/
Currently TradeMe has around 6,000 job listings available throughout New Zealand and offers detailed search options by location, districts, category and annual income. You can also browse their job listings by category or advertiser.
Seek – www.seek.co.nz
Seek is New Zealand’s largest online job site, with between 10,000 – 15,000 job listings available in an extensive range of categories and advanced search options. They also offer free tips and advice on applying for a job, with additional features such as email alerts when new positions have been listed.
Along with these great features, you can also register a free account at Seek, to apply, save and bookmark job listings, manage and store your CV on site and save any searches for faster results.
Sella – www.sella.co.nz/jobs/
Sella is an up and coming New Zealand online auctions, classifieds and job listings website. It currently holds between 150 – 200 job listings, displayed by category and region. This site would be worth taking a look at, due to the chances of having less competition when applying for a job.
Below are a few more smaller New Zealand job sites which may also be worth taking a look at:
In part 2 of this article I will be talking about how to setup and present your CV when applying for a selected job position.

These websites and information is mainly targeted at New Zealand job seekers and employers, however some job listings within these sites, such as Seek may offer positions for non-residents of New Zealand.
Below are some official NZ Government resources which outline the requirements and information for non-residents working in New Zealand.

Most jobs are never advertised. These hidden jobs are filled by people who use personal networking. I feel this technique is just as relevant to people starting in their career as those people well along the track. In fact, I think Kiwis are very willing to help a proactive person who is making the effort to progress their career.
I have a public article written on how networking works; how to prepare, how to ask for a meeting and how to handle the meeting itself.
People can read it here: http://www.successfulresumes.co.nz/new_zealand/networking.pdf
Its part of our Jobsearch Toolkit that we give our clients, but people are welcome to use it.
